As with any popular and growing industry, and so much misleading information derived from opinions, not facts, there can be a lot of confusion.
As with any popular and growing industry, and so much misleading information derived from opinions, not facts, there can be a lot of confusion. One of the most popular misleading information is that a Life, Executive or Business Coach has to have some kind of certificate, or that someone can become a coach by obtaining a certificate earned after months of courses.
Well, some of the most acclaimed Life, Executive or Business Coaches and motivational speakers in the world have never held any certificate, and some of them have never even graduate from a college. They have gained their skills and knowledge through life experience, reading books, authenticity, personal development, they had a extremely strong ‘WHY’ and most importantly they had a good mentor and coach for years before they became “Coaches” themselves. Great life and business coaches have to really love people, be passionate about their work, and about helping others. Good coaches, or any service providers for that matter, have to care more about their clients and their results than they care about the money.
Unfortunately, not everyone can become a great Life, Executive or Business Coach, and clearly not just by attending some courses. A good coach is not defined by a certificate, a good coach is defined by life experience, success, leadership skills, authenticity, personal development, character and by the mentor(s) they have learned from. That doesn’t mean that school or certificates are not good or helpful, it simply means that is not enough. A great coach has to be able to not judge people and has to be a good psychologist.
