Clarify Your Vision Regularly

Find out what you can do to make sure that you set tomorrow up for success.
I am a proponent of reflection, to the point where I incorporate it in my process for evaluating the course of my own life. The reason to not just stay the course, but to calibrate your instruments and verify the accuracy of your course. Although there is adventure in being lost, if what happens tomorrow relies on what you do today, wouldn’t you want to make sure that you set tomorrow up for success?
Part of what I like about a reflective process – a Sacred Time when you disconnect from life’s distractions so you can check in with your still small voice – is that you can:
■Get clear about what you think as opposed to what others think for you
■Make sure that the destination is still some place that you want to go
■Identify what has gotten out of balance in your life
■Renew your confidence in your chosen course
As part of my reflective process I disconnect from others… no email…no Twitter…not even Facebook. A reason why reflecting and occasionally disconnecting from the modern world is important can be inferred from a new report that not only recognizes how being off work doesn’t necessarily mean we’re not connected to the office, but that nearly half of those surveyed said they didn’t feel they had a choice.
Disconnecting can help you identify when the connection to the office is out of balance – and if it is – reflection can help you identify if this is the proper course to your destination. Essentially, if we checked in with ourselves more often – or at all – we could recognize the disconnection between where we’re headed and where we want to go. I also think checking in with ourselves and getting clear about what we think, will help us to realize that we do have the power to choose even if what we’re choosing right now doesn’t seem to be getting us to our destination…we then have the power to choose a change of course.
