Thoughts on Today’s Market:
Fact: We are living in a highly competitive job market right now. It can be very difficult to find suitable employment, conduct an effective job search, and design an application that grabs the eye of the hiring manager. Often times this is true despite having the qualifications and/ or strong motivation to be employed within that particular field because it is challenging to articulate and sell what sets you apart from other applicants.
What’s the missing link you may be asking? Many of us do not know where to begin. Lets face it, finding a job let alone building a career can be daunting and cumbersome. Only a few of us are lucky enough to take a class in how to choose a career, search for a job, and land the interview. It just doesn’t happen very often– rather, it’s assumed that we have this skill set as if it were innate.
Unfortunately this is simply not true for most and like any other skill, it requires thought, planning, and practice. Realistically, how often do you search for a new position? It’s usually on an as needed-basis so no wonder it can be a bit rocky at times. Fortunately there are people like myself who specialize in this process and can help you develop these skills to achieve your academic, career, and life goals.
