3 Blocks That Can Hold You Back In Your Business

What keeps you stuck in your business? Here are 3 common blocks that stop business people in their tracks.
We all get stuck at some point in our business. It can be because we are comfortable with what we are doing, or it can be because we don’t know what to do next. Many times we are afraid to ask someone for guidance for fear that we will look like we don’t know what we are doing. Or, worse yet, we think it makes us appear weak. The reality is we all get stuck and we all need help getting unstuck at some point in our journey. None of us are immune.
I see a lot of business owners grapple with the following three blocks that end up keeping them stuck. See if you recognize yourself in any of these:
1. Fear of Success
It feels counterintuitive, doesn’t it? You would think that succeeding would be the easiest thing to do, but it isn’t. The fear of success takes over and makes people look at how their life is going to change. We start to ask ourselves these types of questions: “Will my friends still like me?” “Will my friends and family understand and support the changes I want to make?” “Will I want to spend time with them anymore?” “Who do I think I am to want to be successful?”
It really comes down to one thing: “Am I good enough?” We become our own worst enemy because we don’t feel worthy. Here’s why: Something comes very easy to me but may be very difficult to you, and I start thinking “well this is so easy anybody can do it.” And that’s just not the case. We get into a cycle of self-doubt – why
would anybody believe me because this is so easy anyone can do it. It becomes a vicious cycle we can’t break out of.
What we have to remember is we ALL have a gift – and we should share that gift. What is 80% to me is 110% to you. What is hard for me may be easy for you and vice-versa. Remember, we are all unique and no-one does what we do the way we do it!
2. I’ll do it myself and/or find a free resource to help me ________ (fill in the blank with your favorite saying.)
How many times have you said this to yourself because you thought this would be the most effective way to go? You do realize that by continually going this route you set yourself up to stay on the same path, right? There are times when it is appropriate for you to either do it yourself, or find a free resource. The key here is knowing when it’s appropriate to do it yourself, and when it’s appropriate to hire someone. The one way you can help yourself and your business is to hire a coach who has been where you are. This is an investment in yourself and your future. Many times I’ve had clients tell me, “I wish I’d hired you sooner. You could have saved me from XYZ headache or shortened my learning curve.”
Remember, free has it’s place, but if you want to grow your business and really be able to service your clients, you need to invest in yourself and your business.
3. Everyone is my client
How many times have you given this answer when someone asks you who you work with? Let me just state for the record, that everyone is NOT your client. You need to be very clear on ‘who’ you do ‘what’ to. Until you have this clarity, you will find it harder to find clients and grow your business. Notice I did not say that you couldn’t find clients or grow your business, but without a clear picture of your Ideal Client you will find it more difficult to move forward.
If you resonated with any of the above (even just a little bit), I’d like to invite you to take some time and ask yourself what one small step could you take today to change one of the above blocks? Remember, one small step leads to another, and another, and another. :)
