3 Things Every Business Should Do Right Now

Do you have a plan in place in case you are unable to work for a period of time?
We hear all the time that as a business owner we should have a business plan in place along with a marketing plan, right? What about having a plan in place in the event you are unable to work for a period of time? What would happen to your business if you were unable to work for two weeks, three weeks, two months, or longer? This could be due to an illness or Mother Nature.
Do you have a system in place that allows for your clients to be notified? Do you have a plan in place where someone could help you cover the workload? Would your business be there when you returned?
Part of being a business owner (and you are, right?) is planning for this type of thing. Your clients expect you to be prepared and to have systems in place should something happen to your ability to do business.
It seems lately I keep hearing about business owners getting sick, having a sick family member, etc. and they just disappear on their clients. No explanation. Nothing. It leaves the client with a very bad taste in their mouth not only about you, but about others in your industry. So what can you do to make certain this doesn’t happen to you?
Here are three things you can do right now to make certain you are not caught off-guard:
1. Write down all pertinent client information. Write down their name, phone number(s), address, email(s), etc.
2. Write down what you do for each client. You can either be very detailed or you can provide broad strokes, but there should be enough information there for someone to grab ahold of it and move forward.
3. Decide who will make the call(s) to your client(s). Will that be a spouse, best friend, colleague, etc. and then make certain they know this is their task and what they need to do.
Don’t wait until you have a situation happen to you where you need this information. Typically, when this happens you are not in a frame of mind to think clearly. Best to do your thinking now while you are clear and can make the best decisions for you, your business, and your clients.
