The Power of Choice

How to choose to be happy.
People say all the time how you can choose to be happy. There are even books written about this, with that very title. It’s a choice; you choose your mood. The problem with this is that it is not as simple as that. Moods happen and things happen to make you feel bad.
I propose a slightly different variation of the same idea. It is a two-step process. First, you have to allow to the bad feelings to happen. Accept them and acknowledge them, and then you can move on. Stomp and shout, “It’s not fair!” Do whatever it is you need to in order to let the bad feelings happen; if you do not let them flow, you cannot let go.
That is step one to choosing to be happy. Step two is realizing that you are choosing most of the things that happen in your life because they provide some benefit that makes it better than the alternative. Your job may suck, your mate is not perfect, you are not exactly satisfied with something, but you are choosing it because it’s better than the other option, whatever that may be.
Once you realize that you are choosing something because that is the best option for right now, it makes it a lot easier to not be upset by the pitfalls of it.
