When I Grow Up. . .

How do we grow up into the person we want to be?
How did I get here? At some point, I think we all come to the scary realization that we are now all grown up, and this is the life we’re living. For the lucky few that knew what they want to do from their senior year in high school, got through a four year program, and got their dream job, this is not much of a problem. Unfortunately, this is not the norm. In fact, only one out of five people in the US are working in their dream jobs, according to a study done by NBC.
Most of us end up taking a job that meets our needs and happens to be hiring when we need a job. This is not the dream job, but it’s the job most of us have. The one that really doesn’t feel like we are making our mark on this world, but it pays the bills.
For us who have landed in a job instead of our dream career, we realize somewhere around the ages of 35 to 40 that that we are grown ups now and it’s time to figure out what kind of impact we want to have on the world, and how we are going to do that.
Life happens so quickly, we are just trying to keep up and do the best we can with what we have. Before you know it, adulthood hits and you can’t imagine that this is really ‘it’ for the rest of your life.
The easy way to handle this is to have a typical mid-life crisis, a period of dramatic self-doubt, and quit your job, marriage, or whatever else in your life that isn’t working and try to start over.
Instead of doing that, I have decided to take the hard road and figure out how to make it all work for me, and make my mark on the world by finding my true calling in life. I think that this is when life really starts. What an exciting time to be alive!
So thank you to all who read my blog, as this has been an important part of my self-discovery.
