You can’t unscramble and Egg… just one sentence of many written to my in response to my blog about family and friends. It hit me unexpectedly like a slap across the face sobers you up, or calms you down! The contents of the letters are so helpful in filling voids that have been woven into the very fabric of my being. I understand that we all do the best we can with what we know. However I wish that people realized by never acknowledging the choices that you have made to the people that it directly affected, you have changed their reality. Living a life of voids means that you are living without roots, no foundation in which to depend on and grow from. Clearly these voids stunt the growth of people’s roots; roots need nourishment, water, & care. If any of these are missing than the roots can’t grow and they have to find their own place in the world, all the time wondering why all the other roots around are thriving and they just can’t seem to get all they need to thrive, no matter how hard they try. However “Press On” has always been my motto and that I have always done.
Press on is what I have done… It took many years to finally put my finger on these voids and how they affected me. When I was able to connect the dots the relief was palpable. I felt physical relief in finally realizing that the feeling that I had were Real… not just an imaginary idea in a child’s mind. There were and are multiple voids that have forced my personal roots to grow in an unorthodox and self preserving way, sadly never quite deep enough to feel permanent within the world. I sometimes liken it to being a cactus in a world of orchids. The orchids require so much attention, and they reward you with their magnificent beauty and aroma. People tend to their orchids never wanting to risk neglecting them, these are my siblings. Their roots and their history’s are deep and they know their place in the world, you see with their roots so deeply imbedded they know that are safe and real and that there are other roots near by to help them if they falter either by design or choice. Someone will be there always have always will, it would be a crime to just abandon an orchid they are so beautiful. I on the other hand with my stunted roots and tremendous voids in my soil full of pebbles and stones I am a cactus. A cactus required little water, almost no attention or nurturing. Cactus survive against all odds… they retain the water they receive knowing that there is no way to know if and when more water will come their way. The sand is far to unpredictable to develop deep roots, the roots of a cactus tend to stay close and just hang on for dear life. People tend to be drawn to the cactus because it is Different, unusual just a oddity, people find it interesting more then beautiful and well it is almost impossible to kill… Right? Some take it as a challenge how much can I possibly neglect this thing before it just gives up? Then you have the people that just assume that this cactus is the same as other plants and they over do… they water it to death and wonder why it drowned in their love. The mistake that these people make is not learning just what the cactus needs, they assume that their needs are the same and they will give it all they have… This kills the cactus, the cactus needs different things and when people do not allow this to happen they are not allowing the cactus to be what it is supposed to be.
There is beauty in both the orchid and the cactus however without the proper care you can never really enjoy either for very long.
