Get your happy back! Pick yourself up and start moving in the right direction with this easy, three step process to self-improvement.
If only. If only, I had the courage to swallow the bottle of pills taunting me from the nightstand. There they sit, my key to happiness and freedom. If only. It would be so wonderful to slip off into a deep sleep never to awake here again. Here, this place. Life…. If I could transcribe exactly what I was thinking in a year and a half ago, this would be it. This was me. Depressed, frustrated and looking for a way out. I can’t tell you how many times I sat staring at the bottle of Xanax prescribed to me and praying for the courage to end my life.
The beautiful premise of life coaching is based on the here and now. Here and now, I am fabulous! I love my life, I love myself and I love my future. I transformed my life and you can too. Here is a simple three step process to get you on the right track. It worked for me and it can work for you.
1.) Focus on today with one happy thought at a time. Each morning complete this sentence. “Today, I feel happy because ______________ .” Make yourself say it out loud. Repeat it until it feels good. It doesn’t have to be a revelation. You could feel happy about the sun coming out, your coffee brewing, the roof over your head, your car, your pillow, your children, your partner, your hair, your sense of smell, your eyesight, flowers, birds…whatever you can think of that makes you feel happiness, even if only a hint. After about a week of doing this, it begins to come naturally and you start to look forward to thinking about your happy thought.
2.) Write it down and let it go. Each day write down one negative thought you will commit to remove. For me this thought was blame. I replaced blame with acceptance. This allowed me to release the negative feeling. It takes practice but you’ll get there. Each time the negative thought arises, stop it, release it and replace it.
3.) Create your future! Once you have made progress in re-introducing “happy” into your life and releasing negative thoughts, you will feel clarity and relief. This feeling will grow. Nurture it. You will see the light at the end of the tunnel. This process makes room for creativity. Be creative! Think about you. Who are you? Do you like who you are? If the answer is no, change you! Do you have a purpose? What makes you happy? When do you feel fulfilled? What do you want to be your purpose? What can you do right now, TODAY, here and now, to move toward your purpose? Your purpose may take time to find. That’s ok. Experiment and enjoy the journey to self-discovery and tranformation. It provides a window to your soul and you learn more about yourself and the world around you than you ever thought possible.
Happy Living!
