Is There a Magic Bullet for Success?

The magic bullet for success is not magic but a simple three step formula that we can each follow if we are willing...as a life coach...
Is there a magic bullet, a magic pill, or a motivational secret that would cause us to suddenly be successful? My belief, as a life coach, is that success comes from well cultivated habits not from a magic bullet.
Success requires clarity, commitment and persistence. Success requires doing what it takes day after day. This does not mean we need to work hard and be miserable. We can chose work (or relationships) we love and we can continue to find ways to make our work (or our relationships) fun, easy and meaningful.
If you are looking for a magic bullet, here it is.
What does success mean to you?
Does success mean achieving a certain dollar amount in sales or having your art work hung in a famous gallery? Perhaps, success involved scientific research, starting your own business, receiving an awesome annual performance review or having an amazing relationship. You can’t get there if you don’t know where you are going. Know what you want.
What will it take to make to have success?
What do you need to do to be successful? When I worked for Xerox to meet our quotas we were expected to make a certain number of sales calls each day. Ask others and do the research to discover what it you would need to do to become successful. Success is about sticking with the process. You may need to make a certain number of calls each day or become more effective at networking. Find out what it will take for you to be successful. Knowledge is powerful. Know what to do.
Do something everyday.
Sometimes it’s easier to see the big picture and sometimes we get caught in the details. We get caught up in those shiny objects (refer to other post) those things that grab our attention and seem so urgent in the moment, even though in no way do they further our long-term goals. Today is the only day I can ever do what it takes to achieve my goals. Yesterday is past and tomorrow is not yet here. Doing what it takes today is the only way we can get further on our path to success. Whether it’s making a certain number of sales calls each day or appreciating your spouse, you can do something each day to further your goals. Do it everyday.
What keeps us from having the career or the relationship of our dreams? No use blaming the outside world, events, the economy or other people. Despite the economy, events, and other people, there are a number of people who thrive in their career and relationships. You too can be one of those people.
The magic bullet for success.
Know what you want.
Know what to do.
Do it everyday.
There is no magic bullet for success but a simple formula we can all follow.
