Life beyond your house... Encouraging stay-at-home moms to explore their passions!
“Oh, you were able to shower today. Great”. Although meant to be words of encouragement, these words spoken years ago by my husband were more of a wake-up call. About twelve years ago when my oldest daughter was an infant, I stayed at home to care for her. She was an amazing baby in many ways, but easy she was not. Most of my days were spent pacifying her cries, needs and wants. As a result many of my needs and wants, like a shower, were not accomplished. I soon realized that when the quality of your day is determined by your degree of cleanliness, it might be time for a change.
I started creating a plan for our daily life. I came to the realization that being a “stay-at-home mom” didn’t mean that you had to stay at home. Within the next few months, I joined a local Gymboree play group, started tutoring former students and worked on completing my Masters Degree. Life became a little hectic at times, but much more rewarding.
Presently, I work with a lot of moms in my life coaching business and together we are able to create well-balanced, fulfilling lives for these moms. Every person is different but opportunities exist all around. Some of the areas that have led to great results included:
1. Baby/mommy and me classes
2. Volunteering
3. Part time work
4. Working from home or finding employment with your baby
5. Returning to school
6. Play groups
7. Exercising/yoga/meditation
8. Starting your own business
9. Fulfilling passions (writing a book…)
10. Mentoring/tutoring/consulting
11. Joining interest area groups (knitting, cooking, reading)
12. Spiritual awareness
So leave the house and explore your passions!
