Life Coaching can be seen as the next 'IT boom', this time one of Consciousness, not Technology. Find out why the increasing demand for Life Coaches!
Serena Williams, Bill Clinton, Andre Agassi, Hugh Jackman… just a few of the many highly successful people who use a Life Coach. Why?
They all use one because they know that self-awareness is the key to successfully navigate obstacles. They are able to continue to take empowered actions toward their goals, while their Coach holds their vision constant for them.
The most cited benefit of Life Coaching is that it raises self-awareness and self-awareness is the most imperative prerequisite for making effective life-changing decisions.
Life Coaching can really be seen as the next ‘IT boom’, this time one of Consciousness, rather than of Technology. The Canadian newspaper, The National Post, made this statement about Life Coaching in April 2007: “Coaching is the second-fastest growing profession in the world, rivaled only by Information Technology.”
Wikipedia defines Life Coaching as: ‘A practice that helps people to identify and achieve personal goals. They help clients set and reach goals using a variety of tools and techniques. They are not therapists, nor consultants; psychological intervention and business analysis are outside the scope of their work.’
Getting from where we are, to where we want to be, is often obscured by many obstacles and uncertainties, creating stress and overwhelm. Most of us rely on sharing ideas with friends and family, who may or may not be objective or necessarily supportive of our goals.
If we do not ask ourselves the right questions, we will never find the right answers. If we do not even see clearly the real obstacles that are blocking our way, how could we ever find a way around them? We all have blind spots. Sometimes we are so focused on what is wrong in our lives that we are missing the opportunities that exist to take us toward our solutions.
The first step needed is to obtain clarity. It is difficult for one person to see the whole picture, all of the options and all the factors that are impacting their quest towards their goals.
This is where a Life Coach becomes invaluable. They will raise the client’s self-awareness through asking the right questions. Good questions will unlock the client’s own solutions that have always been just out of reach. The right questions will help to remove obscuring surface clutter, which may have prevented the client from seeing the real issues.
Once the client has clarity about their Outer Circumstances, the next step is to gain some insights into their own behaviours – the Inner Obstacles. Inner Obstacles can in some cases be cleared simply with increased self-awareness, and acknowledging their own capabilities and strengths. These may have been denied, causing frustrating compromises in their lives.
At the deepest and most powerful level, the Life Coach’s questions will identify the Inner Obstacles that are rooted in the subconscious. These could be limiting beliefs, vows, conflicting values or deep emotional wounds that have not healed yet. By bringing these obstacles to the surface for release and healing, it will clear the way for lasting change.
Every Life Coach-Client Relationship is different and works at a level that is appropriate for the individual client and within the scope of the Coach. A change-process is facilitated for the client, very consciously and safely held by their Coach.
Life Coaching reaches beyond Personal Performance Coaching for Individual change, to Corporate, Executive, Small Business, Youth, Health & Wellness, Nutrition, Fitness, Spiritual, Transformational, Relationship, Parent, Retirement Coaching and more, therefore covering every area of life.
An International Coach Federation Client Survey from 1997-2000 revealed that when clients were asked the value of their Life Coaching investment, 98.5% of clients concluded that their investment in a Life Coach was well worth the money.
Effective Living calls for Effective Change. Life Coaching is the vehicle.
‘It is not the strongest of the species that survive, nor the most intelligent, but the ones most responsive to change.’
