Why Hire a Coach?

You don't really need one. Maybe you shouldn't.
Short answer: Maybe you shouldn’t. You don’t need one. Coaches do not have magical powers. Coaches don’t do anything you can’t do by or for yourself. Except you don’t. And you won’t. Or you wouldn’t be reading this article. You wouldn’t even need to question your need for a coach.
When we take that vocational evaluation test that tells us for which jobs we are most suited, we’re not finding out something new. We tell them that we prefer drawing over working with numbers, and they tell us that we’re more suited to be an artist than an accountant. We already knew that, but we needed to hear it from someone else. Someone who really knows. Like a coach.
We already know how to draw up a plan for our life, but somehow when a coach helps us do it and then keeps us accountable, it seems to work better. Because here’s the thing: A good coach is like your conscience, except he or she is speaking out loud. They know what you need to do and will help you figure it out, and help you decide in what order you need to do it, and then hold your hand (metaphorically) through the process and cheer you on until you accomplish your goals.
So…maybe you should. If you need a little help with organization and possibly a little kick in the pants to get going, that’s why you should consider hiring a coach. You could do it alone. But you won’t.
