Three Steps to Achieving your Goals

It's probably not too late to accomplish at least some of your dreams, but it soon will be. Here's what to do now.
Most of us, at one time or another, have dreams of who or what we want to be when we grow up. For many of us, before we know it, life gets in the way and we lose sight of these dreams. We find ourselves working somewhere or doing something that doesn’t really fit in with our true desires or interests. We may feel stuck. Here’s the thing: we’re not. We just think we are. And most of us can change things. Here’s how:
1. Plan.
What I want to tell you is this: if it’s not already too late for you today, (and unless you’re 99 years old, it probably isn’t) stop procrastinating, because before you know it, it will be tomorrow, and it will be too late. Yes, if you’re older, it may be too late for your original dreams. But it’s not too late to modify them and make the new ones work. Here is what you need to do: Write yourself a game plan – list your goals and check with your inner self to make sure they are realistic. If not, refine them until they are. If they are realistic, then figure out what you need to do in order to accomplish those goals. Do you need further education? Do you need practice? What is it that will take you closer to your dream?
Once you have that figured out, make yourself a time-line. Figure out where you can be in six months, a year, and two years from today. List the steps along the way, and when they can be completed.
Make yourself a schedule – daily, hour by hour. Stick to it. Tell all your friends and family about your new plan. That will make it harder for you to deviate from it.
Analyze where you are wasting time, and work to eliminate any behaviors that keep you from completing the tasks that will lead you to your goal.
2. Find a Mentor.
Seek out someone who is already doing what you hope to do. Ask if you can check in with them for advice from time to time, and to let them know how you’re doing. This helps to reinforce your own dream, and makes you feel accountable (even if you’re not) to this person who is living the life you want.
3. Find a Coach.
Finally, find a coach who can give you guidance, cheer you on, and keep you on track and accountable, so that you don’t slide back into your old habits and procrastinate, because if you don’t move forward today, then in two days from today and in two months from today, and in ten years from today, you will still be hoping to accomplish your goals one day.
If all that you do, day after day is wish and hope and procrastinate, then all that will change, year after year (despite your wishing) is the date.
It was always in your hands, and it still is.
