How confident is your little girl in whom she is? http://jacquiwilson.net/blog/2013/01/30/my-brown-is-beautiful-too-a-confidence-thing/
I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well. Psalm 139:14
BEAUTIFUL!
IMPORTANT!
LOVED!
Every little girl needs to know these three things to feel validated, not because man said so, but because God intended it. Read Psalm 139:14, Jeremiah 29:11, John 3:16, and God Says I’m Beautiful: An Expression of Love from God to Little Girls.[i]
Last year, my home church[ii] hosted an appreciation ceremony for my grandmother, [iii] who had worked with children both in the church and professionally for about fifty years before retiring. One of the featured speakers[iv] told us how she faced self-image issues as a young girl because of her skin tone. One day, my grandmother pulled this girl to the side and simply said, “Your brown is beautiful, too.” That then young girl believed those words. She became more confident, and eventually became an attorney. You may know her if you live in Birmingham, AL.
But the most amazing part of that story is that this now woman did not keep those words to herself. While at her niece’s school choir tryouts, this woman noticed a little girl who was quite nervous. The little girl did not seem to have anyone there to cheer her on. The woman walked over to the little girl and talked with her. After talking with her, she told the little girl, as my grandmother told her, that her brown was beautiful too. That little girl went into those tryouts more confident.
What did these two women’s words/actions say?
They said you are beautiful just the way God made you. They said you are important because only you can fulfill the hopes and dreams God has laid out for you. They said you are loved.
What was the result?
More confidence in who God intended those little girls to be…
