When the "Stuff" Hits the Fan

What to do - how to behave, when chaos is all around?
As a leader, your job is to make solid decisions, and to inspire the same in others no matter how high the pressure gets.
When the unexpected is thrown in your lap, how do you act?
Most people act poorly to “bad” news, because they have labeled it as just that…BAD.
What if you were able to learn to maintain a more balanced mental state when the so-called bad news arrived? What do you think would be the result?
You guessed it…MUCH better decision-making faculties, and a greatly-increased ability to produce influential engagements with others on your team – instead of damaging or hurtful engagements that are common when the atmosphere at work intensifies.
What’s the secret? Knowing that there is no such thing as bad news…only news. Psychologists or behaviorists call this an “activating event.” It is neither good nor bad, until we label it.
The key to reaching our potential as leaders is in maintaining control over our thoughts, feelings and actions so that we can influence more powerfully. So when an unexpected event occurs – let others label it, then bring their own fatalism, victimhood, or conflict into it. You don’t have to play the game that way.
You know better and because of that, can calmly and effectively set a course of action that will move you and your team (back) in the direction of your goals.
