Now Playing: You

Most people build a business plan and then work their life around their business. What if you created a life plan and then had work fit into it?
If your life were a movie what would it be about? Take a moment to think about that. Imagine your life 5 years from now, what does it look like? Is it the same, is it different? Close your eyes and ponder it for a moment, and in that thinking ask yourself what transpired from here to there. Plug that DVD into your head and watch the pictures move across the screen of your mind for those 5 years. What do you see? What is the story-line about? What triumphs has the main character, You, celebrated?
If you were watching a movie that had no plot, no ups and downs, no direction, no character development, how long would you keep watching that movie? And what is the likelihood of you returning to watch the sequel? We quickly engage that thumb and hit stop on the video player or change the channel if we’re bored or disconnected emotionally; in other words we tune out to find something that’s more entertaining, something that sweeps us away into another reality, a distraction.
Instead of being a movie viewer, you become a script writer, producer and director. You get to determine what the story is and how it’s going to play out. You have a say in the development of the main character, the choices that are made, the supporting characters, and the direction that the story is moving, the desired outcome that the main character is working towards. As the one with pen in hand and power of choice, write a story-line that is exciting, inspiring, and enticing. Craft a movie that keeps the audience wanting more, that keeps you wanting more. Now what does the movie look like? What’s the message that is being communicated?
The movie can be about life, it can be about building a remarkable business, or making a positive impact in the community. Here’s the good news, you get to choose the focus of your life, the main theme of the movie. People in North American take pride in being busy. The challenge with this mindset is the busyness becomes a distraction and can generate a false sense of significance. It leaves us feeling like we are running in a hamster wheel, and we get exhausted. People put more time and thought into planning a two week vacation or Christmas celebrations than they do planning their life, business, or career.
You can make a brand new start anytime of the year. What significance will you write into the coming scenes of your life? As a coach I facilitate shifts in thinking for individuals to move from being a spectator to being a player, from being a follower to being a leader in their life. I create the space for my clients to break through the invisible barriers that hold them back. I ask thought-provoking questions that generate the actions necessary to produce more desirable results.
Life isn’t a dress rehearsal or an audition… you only get to do it one time! Let’s talk.
