Reinvent or Repurpose?

You can build upon your current strengths and positive attributes to pursue a new purpose in life.
Reinvention is a buzz word. There are articles, books, websites, blogs, summits and courses dedicated to the topic of personal reinvention. To reinvent, means to redo completely and I understand the allure. When life throws you a curveball, or many, it is a natural inclination to want to distance yourself from the past. The very thought of reemerging from a dark time in our lives, unrecognizable and better than our former selves is liberating. Repurposing means to give a new purpose. As I steadily move towards the age of 40, I have embraced the concept of repurposing my life, rather than reinventing myself. Reinvention implies that there is nothing about myself that I find value in and want to hold on to. I cannot accept the insinuation that I have no redeemable qualities, nor should you. Growth is contingent upon personal acceptance and learning from the mistakes of our past. You cannot erase your past, in effort to become someone new. However, you can build upon your current strengths and positive attributes to pursue a new purpose in life. Make peace with your past. Start focusing on what is good about your life now and the positive direction in which it is heading.
