When Jesus saw him lie, and knew that he had been now a long time
in that case, he saith unto him, Wilt thou be made whole? John 5:6 KJV
In John 5:1-9, we hear the story of a man who was sick for thirty-eight years. This man sat near a pool, which when troubled by an angel, produced healing powers. However, this sick man had not experienced the healing power. According to him, he had no man to help him into the pool and someone stepped in the pool before he did.
One day, Jesus approached this sick man and asked, “Wilt thou be made whole?” The sick man failed to state a clear yes, but obviously knowing his heart’s desire, Jesus told the man to “Rise, take up thy bed, and walk.” The man was healed.
Sometimes, we have children in our lives who feel like they may not deserve a certain thing or fail to speak up because of their past experiences. This can be dangerous. We must hear their heart’s desire, or they may be a victim for a long time.
So, at least once a week, ask your children what they want. Listen closely for that unexpressed heart‘s desire. Pray. Then, act. Why? (1) The more you listen; the more you will understand what they need. (2) You build children’s confidence in you when they feel they can express what they want/ really what they need. (3) Building their confidence in you will create hope that you are there for them. (4) When they are able to experience hope, you create a new life for them.
