What are you choosing?

The choices we make from moment to moment determine the results we will get.
What sets us apart as human beings from the rest of the animal kingdom is freedom of choice. We choose our beliefs which create our thoughts, feelings, words, actions and results. If we want different results, we change our beliefs. The following are 4 steps to help in changing our underlying beliefs and creating new and different results:
Identify – How do we identify our beliefs? By becoming aware; simply by noticing our thoughts heightens our awareness. Example, we might think there isn’t enough to go around; the belief here is “lack” or “not enough” which is what we will create; or to get ahead we have to struggle – struggle is what we will create. Observing something we don’t like is an opportunity to ask ourselves “what do I believe about this?” We don’t have to know “why” we have these beliefs, simply what they are and to accept that that is what we believe NOW. Beliefs are neither good nor bad, they simply produce different results. It sounds simple and it is simple though not easy. It’s amazing how many of us walk around mindlessly and operating on auto-pilot. We are like computers with a program running in the background called “underlying beliefs” which transform into the results we are getting.
Intention – After becoming aware and identifying what our underlying beliefs are (partnering with a Coach can help in gaining clarity) the second step is to set our intention for what we want to create. What is the intention I have? As an example it might be more money or a loving relationship and as a consequence what it actually provides is more freedom, joy, happiness. Identifying the intention is important as it’s the direction we are setting.
Choice – the God given ability we came into this world with. Changing our underlying beliefs to empowering beliefs will change our thoughts, feelings, words and translate into taking inspired action with corresponding results. We can also choose not to.
Creation – This is another factor that sets us apart – the ability to create. What we want to create is a vision. At this point it is tempting to go directly to “how am I going to do this?”. As Albert Einstein has said "we can’t solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them.” Again, working with a Coach can simplify this process. The intent here is to create a vision that is so powerful it inspires action versus a “to do” list. Once we have our vision in place and it is so compelling that we just can’t not do it, we then take steps to make it happen. My experience with clients is they want to go fast forward into the action steps without sufficient time in the vision process. This is an extremely important process.
The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. What choices are you making?
