Can a Moose Be a Goose? Liking You, Appreciating Your Own Talents
To listen http://jacquiwilson.net/blog/2012/10/24/can-a-moose-be-a-goose-liking-you-appreciating-your-own-talents.
Can a moose be a goose,
Or a cat be a bat?
Can a dog be a frog
Or a big fat hog?
Can you be me
Or me be you?
No, only what God made us
Can we stay true.

A minister told the story of a moose who wanted to be a horse. The moose wanted to be a horse because he liked how it ran. The moose taught himself everything there was to know about being a horse, but he was never accepted as a horse.(1)
The story illustrates four key lessons all children should know.
1. Like how God made you. You are awesome the way you are.
2. When you focus on other’s talent, you will become jealous.
3. Jealousy leads you away from what God wants you to be.
4. You can only truly be what God created you to be.
Psalm 139:14 tells children that God made them fearfully and wonderfully, and Genesis 1:26 tells children that God made them in His image. So, they are awesome the way they are. 1 Corinthians 12 and Romans 12 remind children that God gave each of them a talent. If they are unsure of their talents, point out or ask them about their natural abilities. It could be making people laugh, giving hugs, singing, etc. If they focus on their own talents and use their talents for God, they will avoid being jealous of others. Colossians 3:17 tells us to do all in the name of the Lord Jesus.

(1) “ You Never Know” by David H. Roper, Upper Room¸ September 9, 2011. The original story referenced being born again. However, when I reviewed the story, it evoked for me personally the four lessons I mentioned. In discussing the story with my Son Shiners’ Bible Study class, they, too, felt the same.
