What really is coaching?

Coaching helps individuals identify goals, barriers to success and action strategies to help them achieve their personal or professional goals.
How does coaching work? Through a series of sessions with a professional coach, individuals identify goals, barriers to success and action strategies to help them achieve their personal or professional goals. The coach supports the individual in staying committed to priorities they determine are important. Coaches ask empowering questions that support learning and solutions from the client, and provide supportive reinforcement to put new insights into practice.
The number of sessions can vary, but typically there is usually 2-4 sessions per month over a 3-6 month period. Regularity of the sessions is important. Clients can be coached in person, over the phone or using Skype. The coaching arrangement and financial compensation are negotiated between the individual and the coach. Our coaches (depending on their niche, time and client’s budget) charge anywhere from $50-$350 per session. This is lower than what most coaches charge in the open marketplace. Our coaches are committed to individuals and the small business sector and are willing to reduce their rates on a sliding scale basis.
How does coaching benefit business leaders? While coaching has been a professional development resource in the business world, small business leaders and professionals have only recently come to realize the benefits of coaching for learning to cope with the multiple challenges and stresses of management or their career. Several clients have offered testimonials on how coaching has helped them stay in their roles and be more effective as business leaders. A contrasting outcome for some other coaching clients have been reaching clarity that it was time for them to move on. In either case, the individuals felt more empowered and in control of their lives.
How does the matching process work? Once you contact us for a coaching session, we provide an overview of the coaching process and walk you through a complimentary session that helps us evaluate your particular needs. We will then follow up with any necessary paperwork. All financial arrangements for coaching sessions are between you and your coach.
How is coaching different from counseling or therapy? The intent of coaching is to help the client identify personal and professional strengths and build methods based on these strengths to accomplish their goals. Coaching does not delve into the personal history or psychological development of the client.
Is it the same as consulting? Not really. Inherent in consulting is the premise there is some expert background that the consultant can impart to the client. It is believed with coaching, the solutions can be found within the individual. The coach’s job is to help surface these solutions.
What happens if I want to stop the coaching process? If you are not happy with your coach, we will work with you until you are successful in finding one that works for you. If you wish to stop the coaching altogether, then please let your coach know and you will be reimbursed for the balance of unused coaching time.
