Who I Work With

I work with people who want a better life. This article discusses the different forms that takes.
Everyone I work with wants to improve their life. Sometimes they emphasize the positive — maybe they have a great talent or other potential, and they want strategies to translate that potential into achievement. Others are simply aware of being stuck — their lives feel empty and unproductive, and they want to ignite a spark that would make them feel like they are really alive. Others are more conscious of the pain in their lives, whether it is due to others or within themselves — they want relief from their misery, and a roadmap to a more joyful life.
My clients are people of all ages who are no longer able or willing to “settle.” They refuse to give up on their hopes and dreams. They refuse to give in to the common trap of neglecting themselves in the name of equanimity, kindness, self sacrifice or fate. In the end nobody benefits from such tactics that are ultimately grounded in fear, hate or anger that enslaves the present to the past.
My clients all come in experiencing some kind of dis-ease, whether mental or physical. For example, they have physical ailments, such as insomnia; career dissatisfaction; stuckness in repetitive patterns of abusive relationships; paralyzing uncertainty; frustration with the meaninglessness of hedonistic lifestyles; or paralyzing obsession with the memories of terrible trauma. They are often compelled by the desire for anything that will take them out of their painful present. I encounter fear, anger, frustration, depression, sadness and just plain boredom.
There is a silver lining to the cloud of distress. Although pain and unhappiness need to be deeply acknowledged, we also need to see it as an open door to greater meaning. Psychic distress can serve as a push along the personal path to psychological and spiritual fulfillment that we are all called to walk. While helping alleviate their suffering, I help my clients to grow from their experiences, to realize the deeper meaning they came to me for in the first place.
