How to Love Yourself As You've Never Done Before

Find out why giving and receiving are both important to a healthy life.
We are taught that it is better to give than receive. This story is not serving us. Giving and receiving are both important. One is not better than the other. When we only focus on giving or helping others, we end up physically ill or exhausted and emotionally drained or detached.
It’s important to love ourselves and take care of our physical, emotional, mental and spiritual needs so that we have something to give. If we visualize our hearts as buckets of love, then they are filled and overflowing with love; and, we love and nurture ourselves with the contents of the bucket and share the overflow with everyone and everything else.
Are we filling our buckets with love or fear? Do we engage in positive or negative self-talk? Are we acknowledging our feelings? Do we have a safe and supportive space in which to feel as we feel without judgment? Are we grateful for all the blessings in our life and for our feelings?
Gratitude is the key to living a life filled with wonder and joy. Gratitude unlocks our hearts to new knowing.
Sometimes we wish that someone would love, nurture and take care of us. We don’t have to wait for that. We can choose to love, nurture and care for ourselves; we can choose to be the recipients of our own love. How different our world and outlook would be if we felt blessed and loved from within – if we didn’t look outside of ourselves for validation, acceptance, approval or love.
Mother/Father God is within. How does that feel?
