The Power of Choice

Self-empowerment in our personal freedom
At times we feel…powerless, victimized and controlled by life and our circumstances. I am stuck. I am afraid. A barrage of what-if’s enter our head at such a speed we can make ourselves sick, literally. We accept “what is” and walk around asleep for the rest of our lives blaming this or that for our current predicament. We are completely unaware of how powerful we truly are and the potentiality of our ability to create. We are drowning in our own victimization of “He hurt me”, “She did this”, etc…that we forget we are gods with such an ability to create a beautiful life for ourselves and others.
First and foremost we need to understand that we are truly free. We can choose anything we want at any given moment we want. We, at the most fundamental level, are not obligated to anyone on this planet, no one. We have constructed obligations for others and things but the fact that the divorce rate is pushing 60% tells me that our spirits…the spiritual freedom that is such a part of us understands that we are not obligated to anything hence wants to create and express more than we can fathom. It wants to break “free” and be what we were made to do, be expansive. Now, by saying that we are not obligated to anyone or anything does not condone selfishness or neglect of others that are in our care. It means we have power to choose and create what we want and by waking up and becoming aware of ourselves, our power, our love and potential compassion that is within us. To create something better…
Second, we can change and choose something else at any moment we want just by doing so. If you are stuck, or not where you want to be…choose different. It seems that is so simple, so “yeah, yeah, yeah” yet when you think about it and ponder on that power, you will feel a change in you. Your emotions will change (you will want to listen to those, they are the way our spirit communicates) and you will feel empowered and feel better. You are feeling what it would feel like if you pull in your oars and allow the canoe to turn and float down the river freely, taking us where we want to go. The idea that rowing to exhaustion up stream could possibly be a thing of the past. Because I promise you everything you want, is down stream. You just are not aware of it because your pointed the other direction and can’t see it. You have been told your whole life to work hard and endure to the end. But I believe we should be creating, and enjoying the fruits of that creation to the end (like there really is an end, ha ha).
Third, there is no wrong choice. When speaking with my clients it is always brought up that some choice was wrong and they should not have gone down that road. Yet when that onion is peeled back far enough, the choice that was made was exactly what was suppose to happen and certain things were learned that were important for growth. The drug addict that wakes up and makes a choice to change and ends up becoming and advocate for so many others to change through his example. How can anyone condemn his choices? The woman who chooses to leave her husband because she has found herself in a situation where she can not truly express who she is and ends up finding her soulmate and he finds his. They find themselves in a situation where they can be more of “Who They Are” and what they want to be. How can anyone truly judge or condemn. I believe that there are choices, good choices, better choices and best choices. And the more balanced we become, the more spiritually minded we are, the more we listen to our feelings and quiet our minds, our choices will naturally become better for us and those around us. In each one of us, there is a creation waiting to be expressed. The first step to make is to become aware that you are “aware” of your own power and to not suppress it anymore. Start with something small and gradually work up until you are creating worlds.
I like the anology of painting a picture. You are currently painting a picture as you are reading this. (Hopefully you are, but alot of us hand the brush to someone else to paint our pictures for us, or to tell us what brushes to use, or to use water colors when we really want to paint in oils, etc). You become hyper focused on your painting, not really liking how it’s turning out and becoming frustrated, not knowing there is a blank canvas sitting on the floor next to you. You read something or listen to someone, that tells you that there are an unlimited supply of blank canvases at your feet. That idea sounds cool, really cool. But there is a fear welling up inside of you, and you doubt that there are an unlimited supply of canvases at our feet. “No, I need to fix my current painting, I only have one chance and one canvas.” Then something happens….something so powerful it will change your life forever.
You look down…
