Daring to Play Big

Pushing through fear to make your dreams come alive!
I’ll admit I groaned when I first found out that this month’s topic for the Connecting Life Coaches ICA Blog Hop was “Daring to Play BIG.” I mean, what does that mean, and am I doing it?
For me, playing BIG involves risk. It means putting yourself out there and living in such a way that you could fall flat on your face or soar above the clouds. Playing BIG is about having dreams and ideas, forgetting the naysayers, pushing through the fear, and making them come alive. It’s all about being courageous and perhaps, even foolish.
When my former employer terminated my position, I decided to take a few weeks and really think about what I wanted to do with my life. It was time to stop assuming I could dare to play big later; this was my time. I had watched a few life coaches over the span of a year or so, and dreamed about having a similar career myself. How amazing would it be to spend my time helping and encouraging others to live their best lives? Money was tight but it was now or never, and after discussing the variables with my husband, I researched coaching schools and registered at International Coach Academy in July of 2011.
Of all the people I told of my plans, I’d say 99% had no idea what I was talking about. They’d ask: “What is a life coach?” and try not to look at me like I’d lost my marbles. Life coaching has been around a short while and is just starting to become more well-known. Is it a risk to get into this career? It depends on your perspective. Which is riskier? Learning something new that would help me help others, even though it hurt our pocketbook? Or, not giving my dreams a chance and reinforcing the words of that nasty gremlin, my inner-critic?
I’m just starting to build my business and I have no doubt it will be a lot of hard work, but work that I love doing. Even if the business never takes off (nope, never say never!), my journey through ICA training, the personal growth I experienced, and the beautiful and supportive friends I’ve made are absolutely worth it.
Have I dared to play BIG? I’d say I’m just getting started. With each step forward I take, I become more confident in my decision and look forward to sharing my ideas, my gifts, and myself with the world.
I dare YOU to play BIG! What dreams have you been holding secret from the world? If you could push through the fear, what steps would you take to make those dreams come true? Would manifesting your dreams help you use your true, unique voice?
Tell me how you would dare to play BIG. Maybe we can all inspire each other!
