The Secret of Calm

Calming the ADHD brain
My daughter is so active, and at night she can really be hard to get to bed. It’s always been that way. We’d put her in her crib and walk away, and then we’d watch her for an hour on the monitor TV while she played. We always have joked that you finally know she is asleep when mid-sentence she just stops talking and is out. Even when I was pregnant the few times I drank a iced black tea with no sweetener she would immediately go straight to sleep.
Last month we started using lavender essential oil…. you know to calm. No such luck. In fact I would rub some on her feet and she’d babble for even longer than usual. It was like some cruel joke of mother nature. And what was sad is that she wanted it to work. I finally thought it was working, and then I would realize that she was just trying really hard to go to sleep – but it wasn’t working.
So step into the headache zone. My daughter had a headache so bad that it brought her to tears. So I rubbed some peppermint essential oil on her head and she was great. But for a while she was very calm. Interesting. So I decided to see how it worked at bedtime. I actually did it just the way I did for the headache. I rubbed some on my hands and then rubbed it on her head. She was asleep within fifteen minutes. THAT NEVER HAPPENS! Ever!! We’ve been using it every night since, and it’s the key for her.
