What are tried and true steps to focus when clutter and disorder get in the way?!!
Get rid of visible clutter on various levels:
Mental Focus:
- Move ‘stuff to-do’ from your thoughts to a written To-do List, refer to it daily
- Get an Appointment Calendar. Put in all your appointments -refer to it daily
- Pay all your bills or make & keep arrangements
Physical Focus:
- Clean up rooms / work areas / car, any area that distract you
- Give possessions that you do not use to a reputable charity
- Clean off the top of your desk
- Throw away unused items
- Shred unneeded papers, file all papers you don’t throw away
Spiritual Focus
- Clear up any ‘unfinished business’ by reconciling with family, friends, co-workers, spiritual being
Focus on what truly matters to YOU:
Who are you five years from now?
Imagine yourself five years from now; see events, feel memories that shape you into the person you want to be. Focus your energies on what you want.
What is your life purpose?
Ask yourself what kind of impact you uniquely and passionately want to provide to the people you touch and influence. Remind yourself of this purpose to keep you focused on the things that matter to you most.
_*What lights you up from the inside out?*
_
Deep down inside your very essence, you know what you really want to do, and who you really want to be. Anchor the events and circumstances that light you up with images, notes, moments of celebration that keep you lit.
What can you let slide?
- Make time for the things you are truly interested in, and that really matters to you. Find what you can let slide -and then let it.
*What do you need to do first? Pick your 3 Most Important Tasks
*
Do them first thing in the morning. Similarly, once you find what truly matters, try to take care of it first before spending time on tasks that matter less to you. For example: Work on your personal goals first thing in the morning, before you do anything else. This way every day begins positively and in line with your future.
What do you need to do next? Schedule it in.
You are very busy. By scheduling your appointments, you make the time for commitments critical to your future and focus on what truly matters.
A Mind Trick:
Treat an important task as if it is an emergency. The urgency of dealing with the task wipes the procrastination tendency that comes with putting things off. Treat it like an emergency and it’ll matter more than anything else.
