Breaking through diabetes!

A successful case of reversed diabetes using nutrition.
(by Laura Luis)
In December of 2011 I went to Argentina to spend the holidays with my family. It is always good to go back home especially for those types of event when I personally “crave” my loved ones. And talking about cravings I was surprised that my mom was not craving any of the foods she used to eat. Let me clarify.
Last June she came to Canada for my birthday and she stayed here for two months. She suffered from diabetes for 13 years. Since she was diagnosed in 1999 with diabetes mellitus type 2. She has been on 5 different drugs and was told that she had to take them for life and that her condition was not curable. She also has hypothyroidism, high blood pressure and was seriously overweight.
My mom’s health was always a concern for me and that was part of the reason why I got into the alternative health path. I always tried to make her change her habits and ways of eating but I never seemed to succeed. If there are some colleagues out there reading this, you know what I am talking about. It never seems to work with your family members. But… when she got here for her visit she seemed much more willing to make a change.
So I figured that an immersion would be the way to go. I challenged her and said that by the time she had to leave she would be diabetes free. And she wouldn’t have to worry about anything. I would prepare all the food and teach her all she needed to know about it. Maybe she needed some vacations from the kitchen or needed to be taken care of, whatever the case, she knew that my lifestyle was very different than hers but she was willing to give it a chance.
To my surprise after only one week of being here she had lost 5 lbs and her blood sugar levels decreased dramatically. She was not sticking to the plan 100% since my dad was also around and he was not helping much. Changing your lifestyle 360ᵒ from one day to the other is not something easy to do, especially with temptations around. It requires a lot of decision, strength, willingness, family support and taking action.
She did really well! On the second week she was already “scoring” her achievements and sharing her happiness with friends and the rest of the family on Facebook. She had lost 15lbs and was feeling great!
By week three she was blown away by her blood sugar level results, so she decided to slow down on the medication. She started taking it only once a day, and after a while she stopped taking it for good. Since then she hasn’t taken any medication for diabetes again. Long story short, my mom left Canada 30lbs lighter, a lot more energized, with higher self-esteem and a great sense of accomplishment.
Many times we are given certain diagnoses that in reality make us even sicker, leaving us without hope. I firmly believe that we become what we believe. To me, my mom’s case just confirmed that no one can tell you for how long you are going to live or if something is curable or not. At least not the people that know about diseases and selling drugs but nothing about health and healing. Not those who have interests towards health that are totally different than yours. But this is a whole different topic.
For different reasons I was concerned about what would happen to my mom’s new lifestyle once she was back home. First for not being immersed on this lifestyle, also for not having support from others and – the most difficult one – for not being able to find products in Argentina, especially organic fruits and vegetables. It was not an easy task but with my help and her own research she could find a lot of the things she needed. She also planted a garden in her house which actually inspired my brother to plant a humongous garden full of greens on his backyard and to share his food with her.
Today, 8 month later, my mom kept her weight off and actually lost a bit more, totalizing 40 lbs. Her skin is better, her hair is thicker, and she looks radiant and alive! Everyone is asking her to “reveal her secret”. There are no secrets, just food! Foods that come from nature, that are whole organic and don’t have chemicals, pesticides, hormones or antibiotics, non-gmo, plus lots of walks and love.
It was such a pleasure to see everyone at Christmas Eve trying our “weird” food, loving it and breaking some beliefs that healthy food is not tasty!
The whole point of this story is to encourage you to NEVER give up or let anyone tell you what is or is not possible. The human body was created to feel healthy, radiant and full of energy. Disease is a lack of ease; it is as simple as that. So if you have a disease, that means that something you are doing is not aligned with your own true nature and needs attention. Disease is the cure! It actually tells you that there is something to be addressed and changed. When you give your body the right tools, it will heal without your interference.
Remember: we are not only our bodies, we are also our thoughts and emotions and when they are not aligned everything comes out of balance. Finding this balance will guarantee a life of happiness and fulfillment!
