ADHD and exercise

Can exercise be as effective as medications for treating ADHD? Some people say it can be.
Many people are concerned over the rising rate of medication use for those with ADHD and are looking for alternative solutions. While exercise may be an effective at increasing attention and focus the suggestion is that if you are taking medications that you continue to follow the recommendations of your doctor. That is to say keep exercising and keep taking medications if you are doing so.
Exercise has been shown to increase certain mood enhancing hormones such as dopamine and endorphins and those help improve brain function. For those with a tendency to be hyperactive burning off some of their energy allows them to focus. For those that are inattentive then boosting the blood flow and oxygen to the brain help increase their attention. Exercise is a win/win outcome, it helps those with ADHD and for those who are expecting better results at home, work or school there are benefits there as well. Adding exercise to the daily routine of anyone (who is medically able to participate) with ADHD is going to help improve their health and vitality.
If you can add exercise to your daily routine do so. Follow the advice of your doctor and find ways to manage your ADHD rather than having ADHD manage you.
