Interviewing is a learned skill, not one that most people are born with. It is important to learn interview etiquette and practice, practice, practice
10 Quick Tips to the Interview
1. Internalize your resume (know your resume like the back of your hand)
2. Seek out “mock interviews” or practice interviewing with others (practice, practice, practice) – this is probably the best quick tip if I had to choose one
3. Research your employer (read about the company, financials, leadership, culture, etc)
4. Dress professionally for the interview (suits are welcomed!)
5. Bring extra copies of your resume in a professional portfolio (sometimes interviewers will not have time to print your electronic resume, a portfolio shows professionalism and neatness)
6. Introduce yourself with name and a strong handshake (“Hi my name is ______ great to meet you”)
7. Ask questions at the end of the interview (1 is too little, 5 is too much)
8. Ask for the business card (to have the interviewers contact details)
9. Keep your responses to less than 3 minutes (1 is too short, and over 3 minutes might be interpreted as rambling)
10. Send a thank you email! (this is proactive, shows you are respectful and interested in the job)
