Stress happens for a variety of reasons and I've highlighted a few simple tricks to incorporate into your daily life to help keep stress levels at bay
Now let’s talk about stress!
Stress can be triggered by all sorts of things; like starting a new job, reaching deadlines, or studying for an exam. Even exciting news can be stressful; for example, getting engaged and preparing for your upcoming wedding. These things can be very stressful, and sometimes we don’t even realize how stressed we truly are.
A few symptoms of high levels of stress can look like:
Fatigue, headaches, insomnia, depression, anxiety, weight fluctuations, Digestion problems, and hair loss/graying.
Some of the ways I’ve suggested to my clients, as well as I do myself, that I have found most helpful that can be easily incorporated into daily life are:
- Calming activities such as; taking a walk out doors, light yoga, and meditation.
- Start journaling, writing down thoughts tend to help build structure and clear your mind.
- Reducing caffeine intake, if you like to drink 5 cups of coffee a day then try cutting down to 3 and maybe switch out the rest for a non-caffeinated alternative.
- Many people don’t realize that something as simple as eating a more whole foods diet can really reduce oxidative stress. Adding a little more fruits and veg into your diet might make a big change to your stress levels.
- Sometimes the most simple of things that we take for granted can greatly help lower stress and anxiety; taking a small break, even just getting up from your chair and taking a quick spin around the office could help. Taking time to socialize with friends, family and even co-workers. Even just smiling and laughing can help lighten the weight of stress! The next time you have a stressful day, try turning on a funny movie or watching hilarious videos on social media to wind down and lighten the mood.
