Discover how multipotentialites like Nina can build fulfilling, strengths-based careers that align with their passions, values, and unique talents.
If you’re a multipotentialite—someone with a diverse range of interests, talents, and passions—you’ve probably wondered how to bring all those pieces together into a meaningful career. It’s not always easy, but it’s entirely possible.
Let me tell you about Nina, one of my clients. Nina is a highly educated expat living in the Netherlands. She’s a mom of two young boys, married to a Dutch man, and an outdoor enthusiast. On paper, her life seemed perfect—an academic career she had dreamed of, a loving family, and a passion for the outdoors. But beneath the surface, Nina felt stuck.
After spending four months traveling with her family, Nina had a wake-up call. She realized her academic job wasn’t fulfilling her anymore. It was keeping her away from her boys during critical moments in their lives. “How do you leave a dream you’ve built for two decades but no longer serves your happiness?” she asked herself.
Her question resonated deeply. Nina didn’t just want a job—she wanted a life of balance. She wanted a career that allowed her to grow professionally while staying true to her passions and values. That’s when she found me and began her journey of transformation through strengths-based career coaching.
Why Strengths Matter for Multipotentialites
For someone like Nina, with a rich tapestry of skills and interests, the traditional “one path” career narrative didn’t fit. Instead of feeling boxed in, Nina needed to embrace her dynamic nature and build a career that leveraged her strengths.
Here’s why focusing on strengths is transformative:
- You find clarity by understanding what you naturally excel at.
- You unlock confidence as you lean into what energizes you.
- You create alignment between your values, passions, and work.
Studies show that people who use their strengths daily are six times more likely to be engaged at work (Gallup). For multipotentialites, this is the key to turning diverse skills into a cohesive, fulfilling career.
Nina’s Journey: From Academia to Entrepreneurship
When Nina and I began working together, she felt torn between the life she had built and the one she wanted to create. Through the Strength-Based Career Evaluation, we uncovered her core strengths and used them as a foundation for her new path.
1. Exploring Strengths
Nina completed the Strengthscope® Assessment, which highlighted her natural abilities in relationship-building and creative problem-solving. These insights helped her see that her true passion lay in supporting others, particularly foreign women navigating pregnancy and childbirth in the Netherlands.
2. Setting Goals
We worked together to define Nina’s vision: a career that combined her passion for education, her love for connecting with people, and her desire for flexibility. Her goal became clear—starting her own business as a doula and childbirth educator for expat women.
3. Creating an Action Plan
With a clear vision in mind, we mapped out actionable steps:
- Gaining certifications in HypnoBirthing® and doula training.
- Establishing her company, Birth Your Way, to support foreign women during pregnancy and childbirth.
- Building a network of clients and collaborators in her community.
4. Implementing the Plan
Within a year, Nina’s vision became a reality. She now runs her own business, holds group and private childbirth education classes, and supports women as a doula. Her work is deeply fulfilling, and it allows her to balance her professional and family life.
Nina shared, “Life is no longer about going to a job. It’s about creating a fulfilling life where I can grow, contribute, and be present for my family.”

- Fear of Specialization: Specializing doesn’t mean giving up your versatility. Think of it as focusing on one area for now, knowing you can pivot later.
- Overcommitment: Prioritize opportunities that align with your strengths and long-term goals.
- Imposter Syndrome: Remember, your ability to connect diverse ideas is a strength—not a liability.
The Fulfillment Factor
Nina’s journey shows what’s possible when you align your career with your strengths. Her work is no longer a drain on her time and energy—it’s a source of joy and purpose.
