Discover the hidden costs of everyday choices beyond monetary value. This article explores how our actions can impact our health and wellbeing.
Have you ever thought about the true cost of “it”? Not all costs are monetary. Sometimes, the price we pay for certain things in our lives goes beyond dollars and cents.
Imagine shopping for a beautiful piece of art online and the price tags read:
•Never attending another family function
•Never being able to speak to a loved one again
•Never getting 8 hours of sleep again
•Two ulcers
•Heartburn
•Heart attack
•Isolation
•Constant anxiety
•Missing out on precious moments
•Deteriorating health
•Damaged relationships
•Lack of genuine connections
•Feeling unfulfilled
•Burnout
•Regret
•Loneliness
The list could go on and on. Would we add such a piece of art to our cart? As I sit here and ponder, I realize that, NO, we would not. Yet, these are the hidden costs we often pay for "it"—be it striving to be “right,” holding onto anger, nursing hurt feelings, feeling jealousy, disapproving of a loved one’s life choices, striving for perfection, being too busy with work, neglecting self-care, holding grudges, fearing vulnerability, chasing societal expectations, or never setting boundaries. This list could go on and on as well.
Let us take a moment to consider: Is “it” really worth the price? Is there something you need to take out of your cart? Often, we do not see the actual price we are paying. These costs can dishonor our values, and sometimes, we do not even realize our own values well enough to see how these hidden expenses are hurting them.
Coaches help you identify these hidden costs and work towards making more mindful choices. Together, we can build strategies to manage these non-monetary costs, allowing you to live a more fulfilling life. Coaches provide support, accountability, and guidance, helping you navigate these challenges and uncover the path that truly aligns with your values.
How do you manage the non-monetary costs in your life? Remember, the choice is yours. You can take “it” out of the shopping cart at any time and return “it” to stock. Do not pay a price beyond your values budget.
Let us reflect on our choices and make room for what truly matters.
