Our definition of success is fluid. Life experience changes our perspective. Sometimes, like road-worn tires, we need to have our alignment checked.
Ever felt like you’re chasing success, hitting those career milestones, but still not satisfied? Maybe you landed that promotion, got the raise, or checked off a big goal, but something feels off. It could be because your definition of success isn’t aligned with who you truly are—your core values and strengths.
I get it. We’ve all been there, doing what seems like the “right” thing, whether pursuing a title, income, or status, because that’s what society, our families, or our colleagues deem successful. You work hard and hit the goals but then realize that this isn’t what brings real fulfillment. It’s like climbing a ladder only to find it leaning against the wrong wall.
The cost is high when you keep chasing someone else’s idea of success. Imagine feeling drained every morning because you’re not excited about your work. Or worse, you might achieve all those external markers of success yet feel utterly disconnected from your purpose. Over time, this can lead to burnout, loss of motivation, or feeling trapped in a career that no longer excites you. You risk losing passion for what you do—and for life itself.
Here’s the shift: stop, reflect, and redefine success based on your core values and unique strengths. What do you genuinely care about? What work lights you up? Instead of pushing towards what others think is important, realign your goals to what truly matters to you and play to your natural strengths. For example, if creativity and connection are your core values, but you’re stuck in a role focused on routine tasks, you’ll feel that disconnect. Instead, imagine pursuing goals that let you thrive in creative spaces where relationship-building is key. That alignment can transform how you feel about success.
When you redefine success this way, something powerful happens. Your goals become deeply personal and meaningful. You’re no longer chasing what’s expected; you’re building something that feels authentic. Your work gains a sense of purpose, and you start feeling energized and driven again because your actions align with what matters most to you.
What would your life look like if your definition of success were yours? Picture waking up excited because your goals reflect who you are and what you’re passionate about. It might just be the difference between feeling stuck and feeling unstoppable. What are you waiting for? Take a moment to explore what your vision of success really is. Really picture it. You can have it!
