Many people find themselves staying in meaningless burnout jobs they hate, primarily out of a sense of obligation to others. Whether it’s for the financial stability it provides for them and their family, the expectations set by “society”, or the fear of disappointing people, the pressure to stay can be overwhelming. These external factors often overshadow their own intuition and calling, leading to prolonged misalignment and burnout.
On the other hand, there are those who muster the courage to pivot, driven by a mix of personal fulfillment and the realisation that they can better serve others when they are fulfilled and balanced. By honouring themselves, they create space to pursue careers that align with their purpose and strengths. This not only enhances their own lives but also positively impacts those around them, as they become more engaged, motivated, and capable of contributing meaningfully.
Ultimately, a career change is not about disregarding the needs and expectations of others but about finding a space that honours yourself. It’s about recognising that you deserve to thrive in a profession that aligns, excites and empowers you, rather than merely surviving in one that drains you. By honouring yourself, you set a powerful example for others, demonstrating that it is possible to pursue a fulfilling and balanced career while still being considerate of the people and responsibilities in your life.
