The Power of Beliefs

Beliefs, we all have them. We often stand by and defend our beliefs as if they are the ultimate truth. Have you ever wondered whether your beliefs are helping or hindering you?
Over the last year, I have challenged and changed many beliefs I held dear through the process of coaching. I am amazed at how many beliefs I had that actually held me back from creating a life I loved, yet I held on to them the way a child holds onto an old and tattered teddy bear. Funny, how even when we know a belief or behaviour is not serving us, we hang onto it as if it were a life preserver. I think this is due in part to fear, although the belief is not helping us, it is familiar and it is comfortable, like those old comfy pair of shoes.
It took a lot of courage to challenge my old beliefs and adopt new ones. One thing that really supported me on this journey was my coach. My coach kept me on track and believed in me 1000%. He believed that I was capable and resourceful even when I didn’t. For the longest time, I faked it, I acted AS IF I actually let the old belief go and was living by the new positive belief. One day it dawned on me that I was no longer pretending, my belief had shifted and as a result I was creating wonderful opportunities in my life!

Many of our beliefs were formed when we were children and depend on our past experiences. Our beliefs and thoughts are directly linked and play a significant role in creating our reality. How might your life be different by changing just one limiting belief ?
