If finding yourself overwhelmed, lost and depleted, see how you can revise your daily life to feel more in control of things that seem out of control
If you heard the word “Intake” what would you think of? Possibly the introductory meeting by a professional with their client? Intake is defined as “an amount of food, air, or another substance taken into the body” In other words “to take in.”
We humans do this every day. However it’s more than just oral consumption. It’s actually our absorption of the world around us. Not just what we eat and drink, but what we see, or hear, the aroma’s we smell, and physical sensations from our surroundings throughout the day. We absorb all of this, oftentimes unconsciously. In fact, now more than ever, the influx of stimuli can bombard us, engaging all our senses, often simultaneously.
For some of us, this constant influx includes negative content, whether from real-life situations or through media sources, leaving us with feelings of unease and self-doubt. It’s no wonder that many individuals experience heightened stress, anxiety, anger, and a loss of control in these times.
There are, however, people who seem to navigate life with clarity and calmness. They can maneuver through the chaos, changes and challenges they face with little turmoil. What’s their secret? While some may inherently possess a laid-back disposition, most exhibit resilience rooted in self-confidence—the unwavering belief in their own worth, despite external influences.
How do they cultivate this resilience? By truly understanding themselves—recognizing what energizes and brings them joy, as well as what drains them and leaves them feeling empty. This self-awareness empowers them to distance themselves from negativity and incorporate more positivity into their lives. Though it sounds simple, it requires time, patience, and practice.
By examining your daily routines and habits, you can begin your own awareness of what needs to change. If you are exploring this journey of self awareness, notice whether your current activities replenish or deplete your energy.
If faced with draining tasks that can’t be eliminated, consider infusing them with uplifting elements like enjoyable music or inspirational visuals. Alternatively, rearrange your schedule to tackle them when your energy is highest or intersperse them with rejuvenating breaks.
As you begin to discover your best self, identify what nourishes you and what doesn’t. Make choices to prioritize your well-being. Then celebrate these decisions as little victories towards who you truly aspire to be.
