When you want to make a change, don't you want it as quickly as possible? Read on to find out how.
Have you been thinking “it’s time to change. This “thing” is not good for me and it’s been that way for a long time” and it’s a regular thought? As the comedian Jeff Foxworthy would say, “here’s your sign”. Your right! It is time for a change.
We’ve established that change is necessary to produce a different result in one or more areas of your life. Check. Now, how do we go about identifying the change is and how to implement it.
First things first. Step 1 is to identify what you want to change and step 2 is what is the desired outcome. Asking yourself, and writing down the answer to the questions “what do I want to change” AND “what is the feeling/behavior/outcome that I want?”. Don’t take shortcuts here! Write it down and be as specific as possible. The goal here is to make it clear and measurable so that you can definitely know when a change occurs AND you can celebrate success.
Here are some tips that can help you make positive changes:
Identify the impact of the change you want to make: What will making the change do for you? Specifying how your life will be positively impacted will help you follow through on the actions necessary to get the result you want. Moving towards something great leads to better, more consistent results that just not wanting to feel a certain way. What do you want to take the place of what your NOT doing anymore?
Set realistic goals: Setting realistic goals is important when making changes in your life. Break down your goal into smaller, achievable steps. This will help you stay motivated and on track. Start with the easy things and build momentum.
Create a support system: Having a support system can make all the difference when making changes in your life. Reach out to friends, family, or a professional coach to help you stay accountable and motivated.
Celebrate small victories: Celebrating small victories along the way can help you stay motivated and positive. Take time to acknowledge your progress and reward yourself for your hard work. If I do x, I will reward myself with y.
Be patient: Making changes in your life takes time and effort. Be patient with yourself and don’t give up if you experience setbacks. Remember that change is a process, and it’s okay to take things one step at a time.
I hope these tips help you make positive changes in your life. If you have questions, post them into the comments or reach out to me directly.
Life is a project, manage it well!
