As we bid farewell to the challenges and triumphs of the past year, let's welcome the possibilities and opportunities that the New Year brings.
As we bid farewell to the challenges and triumphs of the past year, let’s welcome the possibilities and opportunities that the New Year brings. It’s a time for reflection, growth, and, most importantly, a renewed focus on our well-being.
Grounded in my 4-step Change Process, here are some gentle reminders and resolutions for your journey into 2024:
Reflect with Kindness: Take a moment to reflect on the past year without judgment. Celebrate your successes, acknowledge your challenges, and recognise the strength it took to navigate both.
Embrace Mindfulness: Based on the two minds concept, create distance between your “Conscious Mind” (home to your kindness, wisdom, values & logic) and the “Rooted Mind” (where thoughts, feelings and urges are generated). Integrate the first step of the 4-step Change Process, the simple one-minute “Focus Reset” exercise, into your daily life.
Self-compassion Matters: In the 4-step Change Process, self-compassion is a crucial step. Accept that you don’t control the stories or feelings generated by the Rooted Mind, but empower yourself to reframe and take meaningful next steps.
Reframing Thoughts: Utilise the Reframing step of the Change Process to question the validity of stories from the “Rooted Mind”. In 2024, remember just because you think it doesn’t mean it’s true.
Set Realistic Goals: While ambitious goals are admirable, be kind to yourself. Break down objectives into smaller, achievable steps, and celebrate each milestone along the way.
Prioritise Self-Care: Ground your goals in values, but also highlight the importance of self-care. Whether a quiet moment with a book, a nature walk, or a mindful meditation session, prioritise activities rejuvenating your mind, body, and spirit.
Connect with Others: Strengthen your support system by reaching out to friends, family, or professionals. Human connection is a powerful antidote to stress and offers invaluable support during challenging times.
Reflect on Valued Living: Envision 2024 as a year of valued living. Consider actions and activities you’d like to have achieved by the end of the year, and let this reflection guide you towards a year of mindful, valued living.
The small steps you take today can lead to significant improvements in your overall well-being. Let’s embark on this journey together and make 2024 a year of positive transformation.
