6 Easy Tips to Marketing

Marketing your practice doesn't have to be a daunting, dreaded task. Here are tips that helped me overcome fear of marketing.
First, thank you for what you do. Being a therapist in an agency is hard work. It can be draining and you may feel unappreciated.
Has working in an agency finally burnt you out? Has it finally drained you of all your energy. Do you long for the same level of energy and passion as when you entered the field?
I know you truly care about your clients and want them to improve, but it has become too much to stay at your agency.
It’s hard to open a private practice when you’re already tired and have no energy. Not to mention, life gets in the way outside of work as well.
Going deeper, you’re afraid of failing or disappointing others if your private practice doesn’t work out. It’s exciting to open a business. You tell everyone about it and they’re excited for you.
Thinking about having to market your private practice just adds layers of doubt and fear onto an already shaky idea of opening a private practice.
It is terrifying to tell people “hey come see me” or “hey send your clients my way”.
Here’s the truth: You’re already an expert in marketing. Opening a practice does take a lot of dedication and hard work, but you’ve already proven yourself to be a hard worker.
Marketing is connecting with others. You don’t connect with others by saying “hey come see me" or “hey send clients my way". You connect with their pain and let them know there is hope that they can get out of that pain, whether or not they work with you.
Here’s what I think about when talking to doctor’s offices:
1. Understand the type of clientele this doctor’s office sees. What are the clients’ biggest pain points?
2. How will what you do help save the doctors time? Make it more about the doctor than the client. Identify how their clients will get better faster with your help. For most doctors, their number one issue is time. If you can save them time, you’ll be doing a huge service for them.
3. Write a letter with those points. Save that to send to doctor’s offices, but then take that letter and cut it down to one or two sentences that you can share with receptionists. Remember they’re incredibly busy as well.
4. Memorize your one or two sentences, but don’t make it sound stuffy.
5. Go to your doctors first. It feels less weird to talk with those receptionists and doctors. This will help you actually “do" it once (or more depending on how many doctors you have).
6. Bring copies of your letter with your contact info on them as well as business cards so they can give your info to their clients.
These are things that made it easier for me to go out of my comfort zone and start talking with doctor’s offices.
Like all my clients, you are a passionate, dedicated person who’s passion and energy are currently misaligned with your current work situation.
Once you uncover the real reasons you struggle to move forward, you’ll be able to incorporate the same things you teach your clients and gain confidence in yourself as a business owner.
With the right roadmap to align your passion and energy you will love going to work again.
