What is your ultimate goal for weight loss and how can you use that to boost your motivation?
Do you Really Want to be Thin?
Do you really want to be thin? This is an honest question. You’re first reaction may be, “Of course I want to be thin!”. Perhaps your real goal is something else. Let’s explore!
Thinness, Better Health, More Respect from Others, More Sex Appeal, Looking Better, Feeling Better, More Self Respect, Living Longer, Getting a Better Job?
What are your real motives for losing weight? Take a minute to think about it before jumping in with an answer. Even then, do not accept your first answer. Dig deeper. Ask yourself, “Is this the real reason, or is there a deeper reason?”. Ask this of yourself several times before letting yourself be satisfied with the answer.
Tip: Ask this question to the Holy Spirit. He knows you better than anyone, even yourself, and He does not withhold wisdom! You may want to turn this into a journaling exercise. I find that an easy way to listen to the Holy Spirit.
Use your Goal as Motivation
Once you are satisfied with your answer, use this deepest goal as motivation to keep you on track. When your motivation to continue or to maintain your weight loss starts flagging remind yourself of why losing weight is important to you. It doesn’t matter if your goal isn’t “spiritual”. What’s important is finding your real goal.
