The Power of a positive mindset. What you focus on is what your energy is geared towards. Take back the control and focus on what empowers you.
If its one thing I have learned in life since it was a child, it is the power a positive mindset can provide to your life.
A positive mindset can change your view of life and the world in general. Opening your mind to possibilities and not settling for less.
A positive mindset can give you more confidence, improve your mood, and even reduce the likelihood of developing conditions such as hypertension, depression and other stress induced disorders.
The “power of positive thinking” is a popular concept, and sometimes it can feel a little cliché. It is demonstrated by a multitude of scientific studies and its power on an individual physically and mentally.
I have been known throughout my life for not only having high integrity but for the positive mindset I exhibit in myself and those that surround me in life.
If you want to be effective in your way of thinking and bring more positivity in your life, you will need concrete examples to help you through the process.
1.) Begin your day with gratitude.
Personally, I enjoy beginning my day first thing when opening my eyes with time for gratitude. Some people meditate, complete a gratitude yoga practice, I enjoy listing to an app named aura and placing it on a morning gratitude. I also enjoy if I am up and full of energy completing a yoga gratitude class on my peloton. During the spring, summer and fall mornings opening my windows to hear the birds while envisioning areas in my life that I am grateful for is another practice. When we set our minds to being grateful first thing in the morning it sets the tone for the remainder of the day allowing us to be grateful for all that we deal with throughout the day regardless to how difficult.
2.) Focus on the good in life however small.
Life can be challenging. Regardless to the challenges and difficulties that surround you each day focus on the positives that you have achieved no matter how small in your life. Understanding that we can overcome. Difficult times are temporary, and it is up to us to persevere and make it through. What you focus on the energy will flow to.
3.) Find humor in difficult situations.
Allow yourself to experience humor in even the darkest or most trying situations. Reminding yourself that this situation will likely come back in life as a good story later. Understanding this is temporary and it is highly probable that many people are suffering much worse than you. Life is short and each of us is on a journey. Say you’re been laid off from your job (you are not the only one) take a moment to revisit your passion(s) in life and provide an opportunity to pursue them.
4.) Turn failures into opportunities.
Everyone has failed at something and if they say they haven’t then there are other things they are not being truthful to you to. Even the most successful people have failed before making it to the top. We all are human and experience failure differently. You will make mistakes and experience this at some state of your life. Instead of focusing on how you failed, think about what you will do differently next time. Grow from it or learn from the opportunity and open a new one. Without growth we are null and void in this life.
We all hear the voice in our head telling us it will never happen. We are not good enough, too old, or no one will believe. Instead of allowing this talk to set you back in life face it head on. Provide confidence and believe in yourself. Your negative thoughts can hold you back from achieving some of your greatest success’ in life. Instead when the thought arrives, thank it for being there but tell it “thanks anyway, I got this”. When you catch yourself doing this, either stop and replace these negative thoughts or messages with positive ones of inner confidence. Such ways as using I am too old to run that marathon. Can turn into I can be the best version of me if I take up the opportunity. If I don’t try and take the chance, I won’t know the outcome. Possibly, “once I get more practice, I’ll be much better at this”. Or when saying ..I shouldn’t have bothered becomes That didn’t work out as planned but possibly next time.
Consider what will be worse not taking up the opportunity or resenting yourself that you never did.
6.) Focus on the present.Focus on the exact moment, what is surrounding you? Focus on this individual moment. In most situations, you will find it is not as bad as you imagine it to be. Most sources of negativity stem from a memory of an event in your life or the exaggerated imagination of a potential future event. Stay in the present moment. Focus on positive, what is here and now for you. Expand from there.
7.) Surround yourself with those that lift you up and support you.Whether family, friends, co-workers. When you surround yourself with people that truly support and nourish you and are positive, you will focus more on the positive outlooks, stories and affirmations which will provide the ignition to your success. It can be a needle in a haystack at times when seeking that positive person but it is well worth wait and the connection. Finding positive people to fill up your life can be extremely beneficial to your health and wellbeing. Eliminate the negativity in your life before it consumes you. Do what you can to improve your positivity of others, and let their positivity support you the same way. Just imagine the outcomes when you are surrounded by positivity each day and can rely on it.
We as humans have the ability at any given moment to change our state of mind to a positive one simply by deflecting our thoughts to where we want them to be. You can choose to stay in the negative or choose to be positive. Its all up to YOU!
One out of the many exercises I use with my clients that I find extremely beneficial. Take a moment to complete the exercise below that can be used to create the state you want to be in at any given moment.
Let’s say you want to gain confidence in yourself. Do you remember a time in your life possibly where you were at your peak of confidence? Possibly climbing up a mountain and achieving greatness. I want you to use this exercise each time you hit a plateau in your life, and you are feeling down and undeserving.
1.) Close your eyes and envision a place in your life where you felt you were at your peak of confidence. You achieved the greatest outcome. You were proud and believed nothing could stop you in this moment. Bring the intenseness of that vision of where you were on a scale of 1-10 a high 10 or beyond.
2.) Now as you envision this place where you were at your peak of confidence. How were you presenting yourself? What were you doing standing or sitting? How was your breathing? Fast … Slow? Smiling or serious?
3.) What are your thoughts and beliefs about this place?
4.) What were you saying to yourself at this present moment possibly internally and externally at this place?
5.) Now name the person you are at this time? Calm Confident Self..?
6.) Snap your fingers with the intenseness of these feelings are in your mind and say yes! Excellent now do that three more times. Snap your fingers and say, YES!
Open your eyes and from this place remember when a feeling arrives that you want to change your state to a positive one of confidence bring out this place you arrived at today by snapping your fingers and saying… Yes!
Once you practice this exercise daily it will become natural. Empowering you to exhibit the positivity in each day. Remember where your focus goes the energy will flow within you.
Continue your day being the best version of you!
