Eat That Frog: Tackling Hard Tasks in the Morning for Productivity.
Mark Twain said, “If it’s your job to eat a frog, it’s best to do it first thing in the morning. If it’s your job to eat two frogs, it’s best to eat the biggest one first.”
Mark Twain’s advice to “eat the frog” has become a popular productivity strategy for tackling big, daunting tasks that we tend to procrastinate on. The “frog” represents the task on your to-do list that you’re avoiding, the one that makes you feel uncomfortable or overwhelmed. By facing this task first thing in the morning, when your willpower and concentration are at their peak, you can tackle it with a clear mind and a sense of accomplishment.
On the other hand, if you leave the “frog” for the end of the day, you risk being tired and less productive, which can result in pushing the task to the next day’s to-do list, creating a cycle of procrastination and stress.
To implement the “eat the frog” strategy, start by creating a to-do list the night before, using pen and paper or a digital tool. Prioritize the biggest, hardest, most daunting task first, placing it at the top of your list. When you start working on your to-do list in the morning, take immediate action on the “frog” task, without any distractions or interruptions. Focus solely on completing this task until it’s done.
Once the “frog” is eaten, you’ll experience a sense of relief and a boost in motivation. The rest of your to-do list will feel easier to tackle, and you’ll be more likely to accomplish your goals for the day. Remember, the “frog” is not a punishment, but rather a challenge that can help you grow and develop your skills. By facing it head-on, you’ll gain a sense of achievement and build momentum for the rest of your day.
