Self-doubt can hamper action, leading to missed opportunities, lower self-esteem, and even depression. Start turning the tide around today!
“Will I be able to impress at the upcoming meeting with my boss?”
“Did I screw up in the email that I just sent?”
“What if I am making the wrong choices?”
Uncomfortable thoughts, nervousness, and anxiety that stem from self-doubt are paralyzing and can make us feel small, insignificant, and helpless. The key to breaking free from such self-doubt paralysis is acknowledging your doubts and critical voices and taking action anyway.
This may sound intimidating, but it doesn’t have to be. The actions can start very small. Actually, taking small actions, together with the appreciation of every little step you are taking, is the fastest way to build self-confidence.
Here are some ideas of the first few small steps for you to get started:
Notice when you get nervous. Take note of what is making you nervous, and how it is affecting you. Imagine someone important and dear to you feeling the same nervousness in the same situation. What advice would you give them?
Create 15-min a day to spend on self-development. Consider how your current daily routines can be changed to include this new routine. What do you want to stop doing, and what do you want to start doing? Perhaps you want to stop watching TV late into the night and want to start waking up 30min earlier. Try it, see what worked and didn’t work, modify it, and if needed, try the next new approach.
Buy a journal and start listing all your successes of the day. From the smallest wins to the biggest celebrations!
List five ideas on how you might find your “support” person. A “support person” is someone who will listen, encourage, and hold you accountable like a family member, a friend, or a professional. Someone you trust and feel safe sharing your ideas and outcomes with.
As you continue to make small and uncomfortable actions, your comfort level will increase, and your “uncomfortable” actions will become bolder and bolder. Over time, you will inevitably accumulate the confidence you seek to navigate your life.
Go ahead, trust yourself, and give it a try.
I am wishing you all the best!
