Goals Planning & The Power of a "Target Feeling"

You know that moment after you’ve hit a goal, maybe a few months (or weeks, or hours) later, when the sparkle starts to wear off?
You know that moment after you’ve hit a goal, maybe a few months (or weeks, or hours) later, when the sparkle starts to wear off?
You got that important, industry-leading credential, or that fly-ass promotion. Yay! But now what? Well, now more is expected of you. And you’re thinking about what’s next. You may even feel empty or aimless again.
You can likely take your career in many different directions. How do you choose which one’s best?
I recommend adding a “target feeling” to your goals while doing you goal planning. Your target feeling could be around money (I want to feel financially secure and stop worrying about XYZ expense or potential hardship)…
Or schedule (I want to feel like I’m in charge of where and how I spend my time)…
Or type of work, tasks, engagement, how you feel about yourself, how others see you, etc.
Knowing how you want to FEEL when you meet a certain goal makes you:
More likely to hit your target feeling and be open to achieving it in ways that work best for you.
Less likely to hyper focus on a material goal at all costs and lose sight of your reasons for pursuing it.
So don’t focus so hard on your goal that you forget why you set out to pursue it in the first place.
