Do you find yourself constantly stuck in your head, ruminating about past mistakes or worry about the future?
This constant chatter can be incredibly distracting and keep you from being productive.
But the good news is, you can learn to get out of your head and get more done with these 8 proven strategies.
Practice mindfulness: Mindfulness can help you focus on the present moment and reduce stress, which can be a major source of overthinking. Try deep breathing, meditation or simply paying attention to your thoughts and emotions.
I try to ensure at least once daily that I take myself away to a quiet space where I can take some deep breaths, release any emotions that I need to in order to bring myself back into the present moment. This helps to keep stress levels down.
Set achievable goals: Break down big tasks into smaller, more manageable parts and set achievable goals for each. This will reduce feelings of overwhelm and increase motivation.
I set myself tasks and goals regularly using an app so that I not only stay on track but to ensure my motivation stays intact and so that I can achieve balance and minimize overwhelm.
Prioritize self-care: Taking care of yourself can help reduce stress and increase energy levels, making it easier to be productive. Prioritize activities such as exercise, sleep, and healthy eating.
One of my favorite ways to practice self care is once a week to pamper myself even if it’s a deep conditioning hair mask or using a face mask. It makes me feel good, it puts me first and it takes my mind away from brain overload.
Eliminate distractions: Turn off your phone and close your email when working on a task. Find a quiet place to work where you can concentrate.
In this modern world tech can be highly distracting so I give myself alloted tech time and I ensure at least 30 minutes before tech time it is removed from sight.
Practice gratitude: Focusing on what you’re grateful for can shift your thoughts from what’s not working to what is. Try keeping a gratitude journal and listing three things you’re grateful for each day.
I use a gratitude app daily to capture everything that I am grateful for and I have to say it has helped me hugely. Not only to reduce stress and overwhelm but to also allow constant reminders that there is good in my life and encourage this to continue.
Get moving: Physical activity can help reduce stress and increase energy levels, making it easier to be productive. Take a walk, stretch or do some light exercise.
One of my favorite ways to get moving is to take long walks in nature, see new sites, get familiar with a local area, and basically immerse myself out there in the world. Getting fresh air into my lungs and keeping mobile.
Connect with others: Spending time with friends and family can help reduce stress and shift your focus away from overthinking.
As I am traveling the world my new way of connecting with family and friends is online however I also network with new people and where available I love going to co networking spaces to work and meet like minded people.
Celebrate your progress: Celebrating your successes, no matter how small, can help you build momentum and keep you motivated to continue making progress.
I am a huge advocate for reward. When I completed my accreditation in Coaching I ensured that I rewarded myself for my hard work and dedication. I also gave myself mini rewards each week.
By applying these 8 strategies, you can ditch overthinking and boost productivity today!
Remember, it takes around 21 days to form new habits and 90 days to create lasting change, but with persistence and determination, you can learn to get out of your head and achieve your goals.
