The purpose of this paper is to identify a
‘best practice’ model for the professional practice in conducting performance
management.
Houldsworth and Machin (2008) inform that the labour costs have increased due to
shortage of skilled labour but increasing unprecedented environmental changes
demanding reduced costs of operations and higher efficiencies. Bourne (2005) explains
that the organizations that are effectively managing its employee’s performances are
likely to reduce costs of operations and increase efficiencies. Busi and Bititci (2006)
comments that the contemporary organizations need to plan, develop, manage and
evaluate individual and team’s performances in order to obtain higher organizational
efficiencies. In this context, Andonova and Zuleta (2007) informs that communication
plays important roles in performance management as effective communication between
the individual employee and his supervisor and other stakeholders involved in providing
performance related information is imperative. The purpose of this paper is to identify a
‘best practice’ model for the professional practice in conducting performance
management. The paper will extensively use existing literature on performance
management to determine the best practice model in performance management. The
critical analysis of the literature will help in establishing the steps in conducting
performance management.
