The purpose of this essay is to assume the role of a newly appointed human resource manager at a large accounting firm, Abdul Consultancy and introduce a new employee developmental plan as an integral part of the overall performance management system. The first part of the essay will critically analyze the use of personal development plans for influencing individual growth through knowledge and skills acquisition. It will discuss the purpose, benefits and imperatives in the contemporary organizations. The second part of the essay will design the form (employee development plan) ensuring that it contains all of the elements of a good, effective development plan. It will explain the role of the direct supervisors, managers and the employees in employee developmental plan and will also present the arguments that the personal development plan may reveal and require arranging employees’ professional development including on the job and off the job options.
