An Article about short stories, how senses effect us.
For those who do know me a little, I’m a writer who mostly working on short stories and my 6th book has been published at the start of 2021, in January.
I would like to put give insight into the methods I use in short story writing.
One of the most important elements of a good story is to enable the reader to connect with the subject, internalize that subject and watch it from a place in the story.
The reader’s senses being activated, that is, smelling an element in the story, feeling the music and rhythm in the story, getting cold, and warming up will connect him to the story.
A scent, bread, brewed tea, and urine coming from the wall in the side street can be a piece of the story alone, a fading object of the image in our imagination. But a strong description of their scent goes into the reader’s nose, reaches the memory centre in their brain, and makes them feel as if they’re there and smelling it.
The fragrance is the most effective element to bring memories. That’s why I try to use the smell of the environment and the feeling that that smell brings in my stories.
I believe that every text should have a flow, and a rhythm. Even though we can’t hear the sounds, we can feel the pressure of the steps, the effect of the music in the story, the heartbeat, and the dripping water “Tip-Tip-Tip”.
But going further, repeating the words with the appropriate tempo or the succession of a certain pattern, adding poetry to the story will give us that music and sound.
The author must find out which senses he wants to engage the reader with and use that. Thus, the reader will enter the story like a breeze, the characters will float like a veil as they speak, and they will take a breath from each of them.
